Wisdom Teeth: Age

Posted .

What sounds like the most fun to you? A birthday party? Visiting a theme park? Eating a meal with a friend? How about having teeth pulled? Wisdom teeth removal isn’t most people’s idea of an enjoyable time, even less so if they’re in their senior years. When people grow older, their wisdom teeth roots grow longer and become additionally difficult to extract.

For this reason, we encourage patients who need to have their wisdom teeth removed, to do so between the ages of 15 and 25. While it’s correct that some people never have their wisdom teeth removed and experience no problems, impacted wisdom teeth can do great damage if they’re not removed. For instance, abscesses, tumors, and infections may develop near the area of the impacted wisdom teeth; and if the teeth try to emerge, they may cause misalignment and harm to the other molars. If you’re wondering about having your wisdom teeth removed, and even if you’re older than 25, please tell us about it and we’d be happy to work with you.
